Mr. Slater was born into the family of a career naval officer. His early childhood was spent traversing the continental United States at the whim of the U.S. Government. His family settled in Sacramento in 1964 where, with the exception of his college years, Mr. Slater has resided continuously.
Mr. Slater attended the University of California at Santa Cruz, earning a Degree in Economics in 1976, and then attended McGeorge School of Law, receiving a J.D. degree in 1980.
Mr. Slater’s first legal experience after law school was representation of injured employees at a local Sacramento law firm. He joined the firm in January of 1985, and has represented employers and their insurance carrier in defense of workers’ compensation claims continuously thereafter.
At the present, Mr. Slater’s practice of workers’ compensation defense focuses primarily on representation of public school districts in the Sacramento and Stockton areas. Mr. Slater is a member of the State Bar of California Workers’ Compensation Section, and has been elected as a director of the California Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney’s Association. Mr. Slater has been a Certified Specialist in the practice of workers’ compensation law since 1987.
