Gerald M. Lenahan is the senior and managing partner in the Sacramento office of Lenahan, Lee, Slater and Pearse, a local firm specializing in workers compensation and employment litigation founded by Don McMurchie and Tom Files and which has been in continuous operation in Sacramento since 1952. Mr. Lenahan was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Illinois at Champaign, Urbana, received his Illinois state teaching credential, and briefly taught high school English at Niles North in Skokie, Illinois. Following his relocation to California, Mr. Lenahan attended law school at the University of California, Davis, graduating in 1982. Mr. Lenahan has been with the law firm since May of 1981. He has been a partner with the firm since 1987. His practice is devoted exclusively to workers' compensation defense, including serious and willful misconduct claims and claims of unlawful termination in violation of Labor Code Section 132a. He has appeared in virtually every workers' compensation appeals board in northern California and has represented clients before the Courts of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Mr. Lenahan argued Rodriguez v. WCAB, Flory Industries, 59 CCC 857, before the 5th District Court of Appeal resulting in a published opinion which had statewide significance in the interpretation of Labor Code Section 5402 and specifically defining the time limits for an employer to timely deny an employee's claim for benefits. Mr. Lenahan is a frequent speaker addressing legal developments in workers compensation and chairs the firm's annual legal update which has been offered to clients for the past 24 years. He has been married to Susan Donch Lenahan, a certified medical technologist, since August of 1979. They have two children, Nolan, 23, a civil engineer and graduate student at UCLA, and Colleen, 19, who attends Harvard University and sings in the Radcliffe Choral Society.
